Maclura is a type of osage orange tree that one might find at many a Chateau in France. The estate in Sorgues that CdP icons Paul and Laurence Feraund purchased in 2012, sits just southwest of Chateauneuf-du-Pape proper and features many of these trees. It is a property loaded w/ Cotes du Rhone fruit from 30 - 60 year old vines which are planted in deep, stony clay soils. The Feraunds named the property Chateau Pegau and it is the source of our email deal this week, the 2015 Chateau Pegau Maclura Cotes du Rhone. It is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault. If you love classic, well-made Cotes Du Rhone look no further. It is a savory beauty, at a stunning price.

The 2015 Chateau Pegau Maclura Cotes du Rhone has a dark hued garnet color in the glass. It pours forth in a classic Rhone nose with upfront white pepper, rosemary, green herb and floral notes, giving way to dark cherry, pomegranate, raspberry, red current fruits and earthy undertones. We are big fans of the very dry palate full of tart, deep, red berry fruits intertwined with toasted herbs and mixed spices. This is a wine for lamb, roasted duck, wild game, beef steak, hard cheeses and a lazy labor day weekend enjoying time with family and friends.
