Tenuta Sant'Antonio Nanfre Valpolicella

2019 - Tenuta Sant'Antonio Nanfre Valpolicella is a blend of 70% Corvina and 30% Rodinella grapes with no dried grapes included and no oak.  These winemaking choices are coupled with the fact that the eastern side of Valpolicella is known for clay soils higher in calcium carbonate which leads to brighter red berry flavored wines. The wine has very fresh, direct aromas of cherry, pomegranate, strawberry with a little dried spiciness.  It has a medium weight to the palate with a pleasant structure which we appreciated after a holiday season filled with heavy foods and big rich wines.  We enjoyed the levity and nicely focused red fruits and dry, spicy finish that this Valpolicella showed off.  It is an excellent wine for roasted game birds, aged flavorful cheeses and pasta dishes.
