Selvapiana Villa Petrognano Pomino Rosso D.O.C.

The 2019 Selapiana Villa Petrognano Pomino Rosso D.O.C. is a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot that is organic certified and aged in a mix of 2,500 liter French oak cask and French barriques for 23 months.  Classic Tuscan aromas with fresh wild rosemary, herbs, dark cherry, raspberries, blackberry, orange citrus and toasted notes are what initially told us that this wine had great possibilities.  From the first sip you know you are drinking an Italian wine due to the meaty, dry tannins, tart red berry fruits, and lively balance of acidity punctuated by a pleasantly long finish.  This little known DOC has a wine champion and it's made by Salvapiana.  This wine is made for more complex cuisine like Italian sausage stuffed quail, chingale ragu, or flank steak roulade.
