The 2016 Chateau La Hourcade Medoc is our email deal of the week and a good example of why we like featuring these wines each week. This is a bottle that you most likely would have skipped right over if you were looking for a wine for dinner. Sitting there at $18.99, with a story and label that are fairly boring, this thing was going nowhere fast. I mean I even Google-earthed this place hoping to see the impressive ‘Chateau’ pictured on the bottle but it turns out they may have just doctored up a picture of their steel building that sits on their rural-ish property a little bit out of town. Not much wine romanticism to be had here. But that’s ok, because at $14.99, it was the best of show, of the Bordeauxs we tried and made us more than happy to recommend it to you. Don’t pass it up.

The 2016 Chateau La Hourcade Medoc is a classic Bordeaux red in the glass with a dark garnet and brick color tones. The blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot shows off a nose of earthy, forest aromas with black currant, blackberry, black cherry, dusty spice box and pepper. Down the hatch you will be satisfied with the dusty, dry tannins, tart red berry fruits, cocoa and spice flavors that are well developed and long on the finish. A more perfect wine for cool fall evening might be hard to find. The Chateau la Hourcade also pairs well with roasted fall squash, pheasant, venison, standing rib roast or aged hard cheeses.
