Weekly Wine Deal: 2016 Domaine de Nizas Carignan

Barriques Regular Retail: $20.99
Deal Price: $14.99 a bottle or an additional 10% off a case

If you are the self proclaimed chef in your house, then you already know that the Languedoc region produces some of the very best wines for food and wine pairing. A good example would be our email deal this week, the 2016 Domaine de Nizas Carignan. World renowned wine agriculturist guru John Goelet, co-founder of Clos du Val in Napa and Taltarni in Australia, created Domaine de Nizas in the Languedoc region along with winemaker Francois Lurton. The estate resides just outside the small village of Pezenas, a medieval village surrounded with very diverse soil types perfect for growing Mediterranean grape varieties.

The Domaine de Nizas Carignan looks like a beast in the glass with its deep opaque beet red color and dark purple rim. It has intense garrigue infused plummy red berry aromas of raspberry compote, red currants, blackberry, and blueberry layered between notes of white pepper, rosemary, and earthy minerals. This southern French red is bold on the palate with saturated red berry fruits, hints of Mediterranean herbs, spices, and wild flower, ending with a strong, dry finish with well established tannins. Definitely a wine to sip for the bold among you, and will truly excel when paired with a richly spiced beef roast, steak au poivre, lamb shank in a madeira redux, or perfectly seared venison. Cheers.
