Our wine email deal this week is the 2017 Reunion Malbec from RJ Vinedos, a winery founded in 1996 by Raul Joffre in the Uco Valley of Argentina. Raul gave up his day job to pursue a family tradition of winemaking and brought in his four daughters to help him out. Her refers to his daughters as his "four stars". The family renovated an old concrete winery, built in 1940, into a modern day facility for winemaking. Today they own over 120 hectares of wines along the Andes Mountains, along w/ another 10 hectares of vineyards in the Salta region of northern Argentina. Their grapes are hand harvested, brought to the winery in small crates to ensure the best fruit is harvested and handled to preserve the very best qualities the fruit has to offer. Their vines are all sustainably grown with no use of chemicals in either the vineyards or the wine making process.
The Reunion Malbec is a single vineyard wine that comes from their Los Sauces vineyard, close to Mendoza. What we enjoy about this Malbec is its integrity and balance in the glass. The wine has a dark red berry color, illuminated along the rim with a purplish hue. You will find a pleasantly saturated nose of dark cherry, red plum, red currant, along with chocolate-y notes and spice. On the palate the wine has a seamless, fresh, red berry, silky texture that is persistent and long. The finish is long and dry with a good peppery spice. Having pizza or pasta for dinner sometime soon? Reunion to the rescue. If you are upping the game to a more elaborate roasted lamb or grilled steak, you will appreciate the versatility of the Reunion. Enjoy.
