Grab your steamed mussels, oysters, shrimp scampi w/ pasta or baked goat cheese in a puff pastry and let’s talk about this week’s email deal, the 2018 d’Arenberg Stump Jump Sauvignon Blanc! d’Arenberg needs little introduction as it is one of the kings of Aussie Shiraz and Rhone varietals. The property was originally founded in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia in 1912. It has since grown to an estate covering almost 345 acres dedicated to focusing on nurturing their old-vine vineyards and traditional winemaking. Their brand is one that is recognized for quality wine production worldwide. The “Stump Jump” name itself is derived from the Stump Jump plough that was designed to jump over the roots and rocks in the Austrlian farm fields making it easier for the horses to keep plowing.
The 2018 Stump Jump Sauvignon Blanc reveals a ripe golden rim around a pale straw color in the glass. The nose on the wine is very buoyant and persuasive with rich tropical aromas of pineapple, green melon, lychee, lime zest, followed by notes of mown grass and lemon drops. These are just the kind of aromas that will lift the spirits on a cold winter day! This is not a light Sauvignon Blanc on the palate however, as it offers a full mouthfeel with aromatic tropical fruits that are lush and flavorful to the last drop. Cheers.
