Our email deal this week is the 2018 Tinto Negro Malbec from Argentina. The mountainsides and valleys surrounding Mendoza, Argentina, are known to grow some of the best Malbec grapes in the world. The color of the wine produced from these grapes is quite dark, sometimes opaque, and hence referred to in Spanish as 'Tinto Negro' meaning black wine. The creators of this weeks deal are two veteran wine personalities from Mendoza, Jeff Mausbach and Alejandro Sejanovich, both of whom have a personal love for Malbec and as such named their winery 'Tinto Negro'. Both had tenure under the world famous Catena winery where, for fifteen years, they worked with Malbec from different vineyard sites and elevations, and witnessed first hand how it develops it's unique identity from the different regions around Mendoza. Fueled by amazing Malbec wines, their friendship and their winery are built with the sole mission of creating their own identity with terrior driven wines that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
The Tinto Negro Malbec is a vibrant, inky red with a purplish rim in the glass. It shows off classic Argentine Malbec aromas, leading with a cool smoke and fall spices folded into blackberry, black cherry, ripe plum fruits and cedar. This is a well built, well structured wine on the palate with layers of black fruits, crushed peppercorn and supple dry tannins. Have fun with this bottle while you drink it on taco Tuesday, pizza Thursday or set it up next to your signature pulled pork barbecue for this weekend's Packer's game. Cheers.
