David Marcel traveled to Chile from France to look for a new type of terrior to work with. He was a young, inspired winemaker and after having worked in the past for large production wineries, he wanted to support a more artisan approach to his wines and work with like minded winemakers. He eventually found what he was looking for in the Maule Valley at several old heritage vineyard sites of Carignan and Pais. His Vina Maitia winery is the force behind our email deal this week, the 2018 Vina Maitia ROTO Cabernet.
The Vina Maitia ROTO is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 3% Alicante Bouchet, fermented with natural yeasts and aged primarily in concrete tank with little oak aging to polish things off. The wine has a solid dark red garnet color with a purple-ish rim in the glass. It features savory aromas of black berry, black cherry, plum, licorice, mint and herbs and has a pleasant fresh fruit and aromatic mouth feel, inky mulberry texture, suede leather like tannins, watering acidity and a light spicy finish. If you aren’t salivating already then consider pairing this up with a grilled ribeye, hamburger or NY Strip to really get the juices going. Enjoy, this wine is a special one.
